The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the premier professional accountancy body of the country, established in July, 1949 under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, (Act No. XXXVIII of 1949) enacted by the Parliament to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India. The ICAI has achieved recognition as a premier accounting body not only in the country but also globally, for its contribution in the fields of education, professional development, maintenance of high accounting, auditing and ethical standards since its inception. The ICAI is the second largest accounting body in the world. As a part of Institute’s responsibility to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy, the Institute enrolls students for the Chartered Accountancy Course, imparts theoretical education and monitors practical training to be undergone by them as per the requirements of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. The Institute undertakes educational activities through its Committees. It has three educational committees, viz., Board of Studies, Continuing Professional Education Committee and the Technical Directorate.


Board of Studies (BoS)

Board of Studies is the primary Educational Wing of the Institute. It is responsible for formulating and implementing the policies and programs relating to the education of students pursuing Chartered Accountancy course. It imparts education mainly through distance education mode. The Mission of the Board of Studies is to provide a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and professional values that enables students to grow as wholesome professionals and adapt to changes throughout their professional career. With a view to strengthen student services, the Board of Studies has decided to prepare a dedicated Reading Room Portal for Students.


Functioning of the Reading Room Portal

In order to provide conducive reading environment to our students and helping the weaker section who are finding it difficult to concentrate on their studies owing to shortage of space at their residence, the Reading Rooms, Additional Reading Rooms and Libraries are being operated through the coordinated efforts of our Regional Councils and Branches. It is desired to develop a cloud based user friendly Reading Room Portal to help students to Register themselves from anywhere anytime for a day/ a week / a month by paying Fees as low as Rs. 20/- per day to the Interested Centre through Paytm (Credit card/Debit card/Net banking/ Paytm Wallet). At present 38 Additional Reading Rooms and 154 Reading Rooms/ libraries are being run by our Regional Council and branches. This facility also helps those students who are coming from remote areas to study in metros and bigger cities.
